With the memory of the previous encounter with Waterloo still pretty fresh, what occurred at Yiewsley Drive in the return fixture bore no resemblance to that winning display and in fact only rivals the Billingham display as the worst game of the season.
Preparations had seemed to be on track all week and following a decent fight back against last week’s opponents Rossendale, a big improvement was expected.
What followed would rather be forgotten in terms of performance and if you were to assess it on a scale of 1 to 10, this would rate as a minus 12.
For the record, Mowden scored a try in each half. One from Robin EATOUGH in the first and one from returning scrum half Marty LITHGO in the second.. The points tally was added to by Gavin PAINTER, who converted the first try and also scored two penalties.
It would sound like sour grapes and be disrespectful to Waterloo to say that they are not one of the better sides Mowden have faced so far this season, but the home side need to be beating sides who are there for the taking and the fact that this was not done was a disappointment not only to connections, but to the very decent crowd who turned up in the wet conditions.
Credit in fact must be given to Waterloo, who refused to give in, worked as hard as they could and turned Mowden over in their attempts to retain their National League Three (North)status and good luck to them.
