Darlington Mowden Park can confirm that Simon Uzokwe has signed a two year deal with Newcastle Falcons

As part of the deal, however Uzokwe will remain at Mowden Park for the whole of the 2016/17 season.

Having arrived at the club as a specialist hooker and finishing the season in the back row Uzokwe will now make the transition to back row on a permanent basis.

Uzokwe will again combine playing with studying for his degree at Sunderland University.

Uzokwe said of his new deal “I’m really happy to have signed the contract and the hard work starts now.

“Obviously I’m delighted to be back at Mowden Park for the whole of next season and I’m looking forward to helping the club push on.

“A special thanks must go to the coaches Danny Brown and John Newton who have been fantastic in my development.”

Director of Rugby Danny Brown said: “Simon has been magnificent for us this year and has worked hard throughout and went on to win the supporters player of the year, he has attracted quite a bit of attention this year.

“It’s important for Simon to continue with his studies and complete his degree whilst also having the opportunity to progress and develop his rugby even further.

“We are also pleased to see our relationship with Newcastle continue in such a positive way. Simon is a great player to have around on and off the pitch and we look forward to seeing him back out on the arena for Mowden next year.”
