Darlington Mowden Park RFC 1st XV 2nd Row Pierce Phillips has signed for Championship side Jersey RFC for the forthcoming 2014/15 season.

Twenty-one year old Pierce had a brief stint at Mowden helping them to achieve promotion into National 2 North. After attending Leeds University and having involvement in the Leeds Carnegie set up Pierce re-joined Mowden Park at the start of the 2013/14 season. Towering at 6ft 8 he quickly became an influential figure around the club and became a foundation to a strong Mowden Pack.

“Pierce is an outstanding athlete, to have a player of his physical stature, with his ability to read the game makes him an assets to any team.” (Mowden Park Head Coach Danny Brown)

Pierce has consistently put in solid performances for Mowden Park throughout the season, performances that have not gone unnoticed as he featured in both Senior England Counties 2014 Fixtures.

“It has been a great year for my rugby, chasing league promotion with Mowden, England Counties Caps and now the opportunity to play championship rugby with Jersey. The short time I have been at Mowden has been amazing, it is a really close community with an incredible set up. I am excited about taking the next step in my career, I owe a lot Mowden for providing me with the opportunity to progress as a player and wish them all the best for the future.” (Pierce Phillips)

Danny Brown expressed his delight ‘’I’m very pleased for Pierce and his opportunity with Jersey. Player development is an important part of the club ethos and critical if we are wanting to keep the club growing. As a coach it is brilliant to see one of your young players moving on to new opportunities and both myself and the club only hope that Pierces career goes from strength to strength.”

Jersey Coach Harvey Biljon stated his delight at their latest signing "Pierce is an extremely promising young forward who by all accounts has developed his game during his season in the North-East and will be well equipped to move back to a higher level. I expect him to become a valuable part of Jersey's squad during the early stages of next season, and in the meantime I wish Pierce and Darlington Mowden Park well for the closing weeks of their campaign."
