Jamie (23) joins Mowden Park RFC from former National 2 opponents Hull RUFC.

Predominately a full back but the ability to play wing and centre he arrives at the Arena with considerable experience and a solid try scoring record.

Jamie joined Championship set up Nottingham at the age of 16 achieving both Championship British and Irish cup appearances. Since then he has had seasons with Nuneaton RFC and captained Nottingham Trent University, before signing for Hull RUFC in 2012.

Director of Rugby John Newton is delighted at the new addition “He (Jamie) first came to our attention when he played against us for Hull and since then we have watched him on a number of occasion. He is a versatile player with great footwork and an elusive running game that will cause damage to opposing teams. He likes to play expansive rugby and will have no problem fitting in with the rest of the squad.”

Arriving at the Club with the aim to compete for a 1st team shirt but Jamie will also be aiding in senior squad player development. With a degree in Sports Science with Coaching, he will be heading up the senior squads strength and conditioning training during pre-seasons and throughout.

Jamie arrives with a high level of experience, since graduating University he has worked as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Nottingham Rugby and was also the rugby development officer at the University of Leicester. His enthusiasm for strength and conditioning has lead him to undertake a number of qualifications through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, giving him a firm understanding of elite level sport.

“The step up in league comes with a step up in physicality and it is important that we work with Jamie to ensure our players are ready for the challenge come September. His experience and knowledge of elite level sport and nutrition will provide a great platform for player development throughout the Club.” (John Newton)

New signing Jamie Barnard expressed his excitement on joining his new Club “it’s a great opportunity here at Mowden both professionally and for my rugby. The short time I have been here has been very positive, the facilities are brilliant and there is a great deal of enthusiasm amongst the squad and staff.”

With pre season in full swing the squad are working in preparation for the forth-coming season. With many new faces at the Club we are offering supporters the opportunity to meet the squad ahead of the 2014/15 season at the Mowden Family Pre Season BBQ on the 9th August.
