Four valuable league points at Fylde RFC give DMPRFC three consecutive wins after a poor start to the season (Match report attached).

With the West side of the country experiencing gales and driving rain, these elements were certainly experienced by the faithful at a rain sodden Woodlands Memorial Ground, as DMPRFC sought to put a decent unbeaten run together.

Injuries in all National League 1 teams are causing havoc to clubs at this current time and DMPRFC are no different to anyone else at this time, with a long list of injured players, both long and short term absences, a fact that was highlighted by Fylde RFC, when they lost a player through injury - in the warm up !!!

However, a relatively settled side took the field against Fylde RFC, with only 1 change in the starting line-up, Callum MACKENZIE replacing the injured Ali BONE on the blind-side flank. Rory DUFF and Chris AULD were added to the bench.

DMPRFC were out of the blocks immediately and were 21 points up in as many minutes, with Fylde looking shell-shocked in the process, as they were starved of possession, the visitors were attacking at every opportunity, which is usually the way of the home side.

After 3 minutes, 2 catch and drive lineouts made good ground for DMPRFC and as the ball was flung across the back line, Garry LAW forced his way through a gap in the home defence to score near the posts (0 - 5). LAW regained his composure to slot the afters (0 - 7).

At this stage, the visitors had not really touched the ball and it came as no surprise, when on 10 minutes, another catch and drive brought rewards, as flanker Luca PETILLO latched on to the end of it to score (0 - 12). Again LAW was successful with the conversion (0 - 14).

DMPRFC were dominating scrum and lineout, making inroads into the heart of the home side's territory, but a couple of scoring chances went begging due to impatience and the eagerness to get on the score sheet.

However, this was short lived as on 18 minutes, in a rare piece of possession for the home side, just inside their own half, they moved the ball across their back line, only for Garry LAW to cleverly intercept and jink his way to score near to the posts (0 - 19). Again he regained his breath to convert (0 - 21).

With the home crowd subdued due to the onslaught, it appeared a matter of course that more would follow, but bizarrely enough, DMPRFC failed to register another point for the last three quarters of the game, due to a combination of circumstances, mainly a tremendous fight back by Fylde RFC.

Due to the onslaught, Fylde RFC were forced to make changes, as two of the front row were replaced. Replacement prop Simon Griffiths steadied the ship for the home side, using his considerable bulk to stabilise the pack and neutralise the away sides advantage.

Key injuries then severely interrupted the flow of the game from a DMPRFC perspective, as firstly No. 8 Ollie HODGSON left the field as a precaution, after a blow to the head. After consultation he was fine, but he did not return.

Then came a double blow, as hooker Santiago SOCINO departed with a hamstring problem, followed by tight head prop Ignas DARKNITIS with what looked to be a calf injury.

Although capable replacements were introduced in the form of Rory DUFF, Darren FEARN and Simon UZOKWE, the cohesion and momentum were lost as the whistle heralded the break for half time.

A different DMPRFC emerged from the dressing room and immediately Fylde RFC seized the initiative, scoring after two minutes of the re-start, whereas they had never looked like scoring in all of the first half.

A poor kick off fell exactly for Fylde RFC, who skilfully made their way to the visitors line, scoring via fly half Christopher JOHNSON in their first attack after oranges (5 - 21). Johnson converting his own try (7 - 21).

In a complete reversal of their first half fortunes, DMPRFC now were defending for their lives, but were powerless to prevent two further tries, as Fylde RFC regained their 'mojo', scoring 6 minutes later via flying winger Oli Brennand and then centre Scott Rawlings, as the home side, roared on by their resurgent crowd, sensed 'the best comeback since Lazurus'.

The last quarter was a 'ding-dong' battle of wills, with initially Fylde RFC trying to push on for the win and DMPRFC digging in to see the game out.

The last 10 minutes was spent entirely in the home half, as DMPRFC seized back the initiative, hammering the home line.

Desperate defence was employed by Fylde RFC, with prop Daniel Birchall being 'over eager' somewhat in repelling the onslaught, finding himself yellow carded for his troubles
.
As replacement prop Griffiths had only lasted 30 minutes and had left the field, Fylde RFC were unable to field a front row and therefore after many consultations, the game resumed as such, with no withdrawl of a home side player, which perhaps was a disadvantage to DMPRFC.

DMPRFC did cross the line, wide out, but the play was pulled back rightly as the final pass was forward. In addition, DMPRFC were also held up over the line from a strong scrummage.

All Fylde RFC could rely on was a break out for a try against the run of play and this nearly materialised.

In the last play of the game, DMPRFC scrum half Bruno BRAVO sought to kick the ball out into touch to end the game.

Unfortunately the ball was kicked straight into the hands of Fylde's liveliest winger, who set off on a mazy run, which involved hacks forward and passes, right up to the visitors try line, however, the final ball went forward over the line, as the referee blew for time.

An exciting game, with an exciting finish and a credit to both sides, given the wet conditions.

Important points for DMPRFC and a third consecutive victory
