This coming weekend, our National League One first time visitors are Esher RFC, who travel the long journey North East from their Molesey Road HQ.

Founded in 1923, Esher have been in the National Leagues since the 1997/98 season. They were promoted into the RFU Championship in 2009/10, where they remained until relegation back into National League One at the end of 2012/13.

They finished a creditable 5th in the 2013/14 season.

Chairman of Rugby BBC Sports presenter John Inverdale, leads an impressive Management Team at Esher RFC, which includes former England International Simon Halliday.

Esher RFC are currently in 8th place in the league on 45 points, one place ahead of DMPRFC in 9th on 43 points, with both clubs sharing similar win/loss statistics (W8/L10).

Esher RFC were up against form team Hartpury College last weekend, losing out 8 – 36 at home.

In the corresponding first fixture back on 11th October last year at Molesey Road, Esher RFC ran out deserved winners (32 – 19). Tries for DMPRFC from Chris McTURK, Henry ROBINSON and Garry LAW, who also managed 2 conversions were not enough to overhaul Esher RFC on the day.

DMPRFC left Priory Park, home of Macclesfield RFC, last Saturday evening, knowing they had been involved in a tough game against the hosts who battled all the way.

Tries from Henry ROBINSON, Ben GLEDHILL, Grant CONNON, Matt THOMPSON and a penalty try, together with 4 conversions from CONNON managed to keep ahead of the improving Macclesfield RFC, who were desperate for any kind of win, especially since not registering as home win all season.

Although probably one of the sides destined for the drop, on the basis of their desire and performance in the game, Macclesfield RFC could cause a few problems for any team visiting Priory Park in need of a win and as can been seen from other results on that day (Cinderford beating Ealing Trailfinders and Fylde losing out easily to Hartpury College), any side in this league is capable of beating teams above them in the league.

Enjoy the liquid fare on offer in the well stocked Crossbar II, or if it’s something more solid like a pie or a pasty you fancy, the concourse cafe is the place to be..........
