For the first competitive games of the new season we were able to field a sizable squad of new and established players at the Billingham Festival.

With the sun was shining on a ‘picturesque’ Billingham, it was a perfect day for running rugby. We travelled with an impressive squad of 20 players and comfortably fielded 2 teams. Both teams played 5 tough and exciting games against all the usual suspects (Billingham, Middlesbrough, Redcar, Yarm, Darlington, Guisborough, West Hartlepool etc…).
It’s fair to say that all the players(and coaches!) are still taking on board the new rules this year, the main change being the introduction of the 3 man scrum. However the enthusiasm and passion that our lads and lassies have for the game has clearly not been stifled one bit, and the commitment and skill shown on Sundaywas a pleasure to watch. The running, passing and support play behind the new set piece was exceptional and resulted in a flurry of tries for both DMP sides, and in most cases a win. There’s still plenty work to do on the training ground (tackling!) but what a great start to the season.
Everybody played their part in what was another hugely successful day for DMPRFC and a big thank you to everyone who travelled over to support us - well done everyone!!
