Caitlin Simpson becomes the Sharks’ latest summer signing

I am super excited to come up to join DMP Sharks next season and am really looking forward to gaining more experience at senior rugby level and continuing to develop as a player as I have done over the past 2 years at Gloucester-Hartpury.

DMP Sharks are delighted to announce the signing of Caitlin Simpson ahead of the upcoming 2019/20 Tyrrells Premier 15s season. The 18 year-old joins the club from Premier 15s side Gloucester-Hartpury, and she was looking forward to the switch: “I am super excited to come up to join DMP Sharks next season and am really looking forward to gaining more experience at senior rugby level and continuing to develop as a player as I have done over the past 2 years at Gloucester-Hartpury.”

The young back row forward returns to the North East having previously represented Northumberland at county level. Ahead of her move back to the Area, Simpson added: “Since I grew up in Northumberland, originally playing for Tynedale, I've always been interested in playing for my local team, DMP. I am planning on studying Biomedicine at Northumbria University, starting in September and would like to continue playing premiership rugby alongside this, where I hope to gain knowledge and learn from more senior players in the squad.”

Simpson will join up with her new teammates shortly as they begin their preparations for the upcoming season. Asked about her aspirations for the upcoming campaign, Simpson commented: “My goals for this coming season are to play more first team rugby to gain exposure and experience at a high level, which is important for me to progress up through the pathway - which is the ultimate goal.”

Sharks Head of Programme Justin Loveridge was pleased to be adding further depth to his 2019/20 playing squad: “Caitlin has played against us for Hartpury on a few occasions and has caused us trouble with her ball carrying and high work rate. It great to see a local girl coming back to the area to play for the Sharks and I’m looking forward to seeing what Caitlin can bring this season.”
