Clustering a great success

With limited numbers of girls registered at each club, team fixtures proved particularly difficult last year. The RFU has put a great deal of support and effort into ensuring that there are opportunities for any girl who wants to play rugby,to have a chance to do so this season.

This has resulted in an exciting programme of cluster fixtures - the first of which was the Ryton event on 20th October. At U18, girls from clubs in Northumberland, Cumbria and Durham pooled together to form 2 teams for a great afternoon of rugby. Mowden was represented by Alex Friskney, Amy Hook, Meg Ryder and Sophie Slater. However, team loyalties went out of the window for the afternoon as all the girls got stuck in, relishing the opportunity for any chance to play a competitive match.

Many clubs in the area have attracted new players over the closed season, and are currently developing their skills and confidence. We can look forward to even greater numbers in the coming months - a promising time for girls rugby. Next cluster event is a real showcase at the Falcons on 10th November.
