A late Sarries penalty denies a Sharks bonus point in tight game at the Arena.

Saracens opened the scoring after 10 minutes through Bryony Cleall. The number 8 crashed over after a powerful catch and drive from the visitors, giving them a 0-5 lead as Rowland’s conversion drifted agonisingly wide. The following 20 minutes were closely fought by both sides, with both sets of defences holding strong. A number of handling errors littered the rest of the first period before Claudia Macdonald leveled the scores after breaking clear from half way and sprinting clear. The conversion was unsuccessful and the scores remain level until the half despite a late scare. Cleall looked to have scored her second of the match but was held up well to maintain the deadlock.

Both sides continued to wrestle for the upper hand in the second half, with the visitors having the best of the possession. Saracens eventually edged ahead through another catch and drive, this time Galligan the scorer – 5-10. The remainder of the game was all Saracens but the Sharks defended admirably to hold off a series of Sarries drives before a Rowlands penalty took the visitors beyond the 7 point margin. The result was harsh on the Sharks who deserved a losing bonus point for their defensive effort.
