A strong second half performance saw Wasps secure maximum points against a spirited Sharks side
The Sharks traveled to Wasps as they looked to start their second half of the Premier 15s season with a win. With just 1 change to the starting 15, the visitors were able to name a consistent side and their narrow defeat to the same opposition in September would have given them confidence.
It was the home side who started the brightest, with Abby Dow finding Louise Dodd for the opening score after just 3 minutes. Dow added the extras to give Wasps a 7-0 lead. The hosts extended their advantage shortly after as Rocky Clarke powered over, Dow converting once more to make the score 14-0. Th Sharks came back strongly however and had the better of the rest of the first half. Katy Daley-McLean found Kat Hobson with a smart kick, with the flanker dotting down to get the Sharks on the board after 25 minutes. The visitors doubled their total soon after, with Jo Brown scoring her first try of the season to narrow the deficit to 4 points. There were no further points before half time, making the scores 14-10 to the home side.
The second half started in a similar vein to the first. Some strong backs play from the hosts took them close, with Alice Sheffield eventually scoring their 3rd try after 48 minutes. Dow added the extras once more taking the score to 21-10. The Sharks were still in the game at this point until Wasps secured their 4 try bonus point on the hour mark. Wasps stole the ball from a lineout and transferred the ball out to Danielle Waterman who raced away to extend their advantage. The hosts had the final say on 75 minutes as Dow scored her side's fifth try; final score Wasps 31-10 Sharks.
The Sharks will look to bounce back from the loss as they welcome Harlequins to the Northern Echo Arena on Saturday 20th January (2pm Kick Off).
