A look ahead to the first game of Saturday's double header, as 2nd place Mowden Park face 3rd place Ampthill!

Ampthill and District Rugby Club was founded in 1950 and play their home fixtures at Dilingham Park in Bedfordshire. Ampthill and Mowden have met on several occasions but probably the most historic fixture was the National 2 play-off final at the end of the 2013/14 season when Mowden scored in the last minute of extra-time. The following season, Ampthill joined Mowden in National 1 after winning the play-off final 19-10.

So far, this season, Ampthill are currently in 3rd position with 8 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses, the same record as Mowden. However, Mowden sit in 2nd position as we have picked up 2 extra bonus points along the way. Ampthill’s top points scorer is James Pritchard with 54 points and their joint top try scorers with 7 tries are Sydney Blackmore and Nigel Baker.

When Mowden met Ampthill last season, Mowden came out on top home and away. The first clash between the two sides was away at Ampthill where Mowden came away victorious, 39-20. The second time both sides met was at the Arena and again Mowden won 14-12.

This will be an exciting encounter as both sides will be looking to take 2nd place come Saturday evening and continue the chase down of league leaders Coventry. Mowden will have to put a complete performance together to get a victory and remain in 2nd position.
