Mowden Park Coach John Newton to step down from his role as 1st XV coach at the end of the season.

I have really enjoyed my time with Newtsy and know he will leave a hole in the dressing room!

After 11 years of committed service, 1st XV Coach John Newton has decided to step
down from his role as 1st XV coach at the end of the season. Due to family commitments and work ‘Newts’, as he is known, has decided it is a good time to pass the baton on. Newts has been a huge asset to Mowden Park RFC and has been a massive part of the clubs success including 2 promotions and taking the club to its highest ever league position.

Piers Mitchell

"As a parent I would like to thank him for the incredible care he took of all the
lads when organising overseas 7’s trips . . 1 bedroom booked in Amsterdam for
12 lads . . . and the York Hotel in Dubai . . !!!!!"

Ralph Appleby

"I have been fortunate enough to both play with and be coached by Newts! And
was a lot better coach than player!!! He has been instrumental in the rise of
Mowden over the last 10 years, developing strong bonds with players on and off
the field and working hard to keep us progressing. He is someone players can
turn to for advice and always brings humour into any situation. I have really
enjoyed my time with Newtsy and know he will leave a hole in the dressing room!"

Cameron Mitchell

"I had a fantastic time playing under Newts, he wasn’t the most orthodox coach
but that’s what made him great to play for! A highlight for me was the 7’s
tournaments he’d take us to, anyone that played in Amsterdam and Dubai will
know what I’m talking about!"

On behalf of everyone at the club, we'd like to thank Newts for all of his time and
effort with the club and wish him all the very best for the future!

Tomorrow will be Newts' final game as 1st XV coach, and there will be a presentation after full time on the Arena main pitch.
