DMP Bring In Back Row Franco Lamanna

Darlington Mowden Park are delighted to announce the signing of Uruguay flanker Franco Lamanna. The highly experienced international has joined up with the squad and could be in line to make his debut in Saturday’s National One fixture against Plymouth Albion. Speaking on arriving in the UK, Lamanna said: “I’m very happy to be here. It’s a good club who had a great season last year, they seem to want more and I like that kind of mentality.”

Lamanna has amassed 42 caps for his country since his test debut in 2012, including 3 group games at the 2015 Rugby World Cup. The 28 year-old has spent already spent a couple of weeks in the North East, and has quickly settled in to his new home: “The club has been very welcoming so far and the group of players and staff have really helped me which has made it easier. I’m quickly trying to get to know the town and its dynamics.”

The versatile forward, who can cover both back row and lock, last represented his country in February, facing off against fellow Mowden flanker Matt Heaton in a 32-31 win in his hometown of Montevideo. Looking ahead to the remainder of the season, Lamella was keen to make a positive impact on Mowden’s form: “I want to help the team achieve their goals for the rest of the season. As a player I always want to win; we are a good team in a competitive league and I believe we can beat any team on our day. I will work hard to help the club as much as possible to make this happen.”

DMP’s Head Coach Garry Law was delighted with the latest addition to the squad: “We’re really pleased to have someone of Franco’s calibre joining the squad. We’ve suffered some key injuries in the back row and I’m sure he’ll bring his experience and quality to that position. Currently we’re starting to get a few key players back fit, which combined with Franco joining will increase our strength in depth. This can only bring massive competition for places and generate a more competitive team on the pitch.”

Lamanna is in line to make his debut on Saturday as Mowden Park face Plymouth at the Northern Echo Arena (3pm Kick Off). Tickets for Saturday’s game are available on the day priced at £10 for adults, £8 for concessions and FREE for U16s. As part of our annual Armed Forces Day, DMP will be donating £1 from every adult ticket to Armed Forces Charities, as well as offering free tickets for Armed Forces and Veterans.
