New Zealander Pera Gibbs Joins Mowden Park for 2018/19

Darlington Mowden Park are delighted to announce the signings of Pera Gibbs ahead of the upcoming National One season. The Kiwi back joins his older brother Maia at the club and has already linked up with the squad’s pre-season preparations. Looking ahead to the National One season, the New Zealander was excited to get going: “I’m fizzing for the season ahead with the DMP crew. They’re a great bunch of lads and I’m stoked to have been given the opportunity! Another bonus will be playing alongside my brother. I've only ever played against him so this will be unreal!”

The 26 year-old joins DMP from New Zealand side Mount Maunganui, having also represented the University of Otago and the Bay of Plenty 7s side. Gibbs has also been involved with the New Zealand Sevens squad as their Strength and Conditioning Coach for the last 3 years. Pera and Maia will become the latest set of brothers to represent Mowden Park, following on from Brett and Grant Connon last season.

Mowden Park Head Coach Garry Law was delighted with the latest addition to the squad: “Pera has come over to test himself in England and see a different side of rugby to what he’s experienced in New Zealand. He’s a player who comes with a good pedigree both on and off the field. His work with the All Blacks 7s squad as an S&C coach has given him a lot of experience in that area as well which is great for us. Being a utility back who can cover a number of positions is another big plus for our squad and we look forward to Pera getting in the mix and getting his chance in the Mowden shirt.”
