Kiwi Hooker James Douglas Signs For Mowden Park

Darlington Mowden Park are delighted to announce the signing of James Douglas for the remainder of the 2019/20 National One season. The New Zealander arrived in the UK earlier this week and is in line to make his DMP debut this weekend against Old Elthamians at the Arena on Saturday (3pm Kick Off).

Douglas joins the club from Australian side Queanbeyan Whites, who compete in the ACT Premier Division. The 26 year-old has recently been representing Super Rugby side ACT Brumbies as part of their Development XV. Following his move the UK, the front rower was looking forward to pulling on the Mowden shirt: “I’m excited to be joining DMP. Obviously they have a good history, and have had a decent run in recent years. Upon arrival I’m just trying to find my feet, and find where I can help contribute to the club and the boys, so we can try and finish top of the ladder this season.”

Asked about the switch to English rugby, Douglas added: “Coming and playing over in UK is something I’ve always thought about doing. I’m pretty keen to experience a different play style from New Zealand and Australia, and I’m looking forward to learning a few things about English rugby and the English way of life.”

DMP Head Coach Garry Law was pleased with the latest addition to his squad: “We’re pleased to have James on board. He's over after the conclusion of the Australian league, so he’s fully match fit and raring to get going. Hooker is an area we've been hit with injury early doors, so James will add some experience and stability to this position over the next couple of weeks. He naturally will have a bit of time to get up to speed but he has already trained Tuesday and is in contention for selection this weekend.”
