This club has got great players, coaching staff, staff and supporters to challenge for the league and I wanted to be a part of it.

Darlington Mowden Park are delighted to announce that Ignas Darkintis has re-signed for the club ahead of the 2019/20 National One season. The Lithuanian prop will go into his 6th season with the club, having signed from Ealing Trailfinders in 2015. On extending his stay with the club, Darkintis commented: “This club has got great players, coaching staff, staff and supporters to challenge for the league and I wanted to be a part of it.”

Darkintis’ 5 seasons with the club have seen him make 86 appearances in a Mowden shirt, after making his debut against Fylde in early 2015. Asked about his highlight from his time with the club so far, Darkintis added: “It would have to be coming really close to promotion last season I think, finishing 2nd to Coventry.”

The 30 year-old has been a regular in the 1st XV this season, making 20 appearances across the campaign. Asked how he would assess the 18/19 season, he added: “We lost games we should have won which knocked a bit of confidence at some points, but it's a tough league and you have to be prepared for any challenge.”

Looking ahead to the 2019/20 season, Darkintis was clear on his personal goals for the campaign. “I’m looking to stay fit, train well and play as much as possible.”
