Darlington Mowden Park are delighted to announce the re-signings of Joe Craggs and Brandon Asher Wood.

He is a great example to all the young players at the club, and his performances continue to improve year on year as he develops as a key player for us.

Both players have put pen to paper in deals keeping them at the club for the 2018/19 National One campaign. The pair take the total number of re-signings to 19, as Mowden continue to build a solid squad for the upcoming season.

Having starred in 28 of Mowden’s 30 league games last year, versatile forward Joe Craggs has established himself as a key player in the DMP squad. The second row / back row also scored 4 tries throughout the campaign, in what was his 4th season with the club’s first team. Looking ahead to the coming season, the 21 year-old was pleased to be extending his stay at the club: “I’m very excited to get stuck into another year at DMP and hopefully it’ll be our most successful year yet! With last year giving us something to aim for I can’t wait to see what’s to come!”

Craggs has made a successful transition from the club’s junior sides to the 1st XV, and Director of Rugby Danny Brown was delighted to see the young lock’s progress: “We’re delighted that Joe has progressed through all the age groups to become an integral part of the 1st XV. He is a great example to all the young players at the club, and his performances continue to improve year on year as he develops as a key player for us.”

Another player to commit to the club for another season is South African Brandon Asher-Wood. After joining the club last summer, Brandon played a part in 12 games last season, scoring 3 tries in the process. The 24 year-old was thrilled to be staying at the club for a second season: “My first season at Mowden Park was one to remember. I was blown away by the way the club welcomed me as well as the professionalism I saw when I first arrived. It’s been an honour to pull on the DMP jersey. Finishing 2nd last year after beating Coventry away from home is definitely an indication that we have the squad to challenge for the title this season. I'm looking forward to the challenges ahead as well as creating memories that will last forever.”

Brown was happy with Asher-Wood’s progress since his arrival: “As a coaching team we were impressed with Brandon’s attitude since he joined us last summer. He worked hard to earn his place throughout last season and we’re excited to see his performances this year.”
