Another poor result on the road, as DMPRFC lose at Wharfedale RFC (45 - 21) (Match attached)

Away day blues continue for DMPRFC, as Wharfedale RFC recorded their first win at home at the expense of the North Easterners, who again found themselves more than 20 points down at oranges, leaving an impossible task for the second half.

A bright start unfortunately heralded no points, as a couple of kickable penalties were spurned in favour of a quick tap to no avail and one penalty attempt missed by Garry LAW.

DMPRFC pressured inside the Wharfedale RFC 22-metre line for almost the first quarter of the game, to no avail and with one of their first forays into the visitors half, the home side scored, when prop Alistair Wade crashed over (5 - 0).

In a 100% kicking performance on the day, fly half James Guy opened his account with the conversion (7 - 0).

James Guy added a penalty 10 minutes later (10 - 0) and almost immediately Wharfedale added their second try, after DMPRFC skipper Gareth NESBITT was sin-binned for a technical offence within the 5-metre 'red zone'.

Wharfedale exploited the player number advantage and centre Max Wright forced his way over (15 - 0). James Guy converting (17 - 0).

Wharfedale were now in the ascendancy and followed up with another try from combative scrum half James Doherty (22 - 0), again James Guy converting (24 - 0).

DMPRFC did have scoring opportunities, but handling errors and frustration preventing any scoring.

As oranges arrived, the decent crowd cheered rapturously as their charges made their way into the changing rooms for a well earned break, as the DMPRFC trudged in, heads bowed.

A more determined DMPRFC made a decent fist of the second half, scoring 3 tries to their hosts two, but the game was already over as a competition and a bonus point or two was their only realistic possible hope.

Things looked somewhat brighter, as replacement hooker Simon UZOKWE burst over the line for the visitors opening points (24 - 5), with Garry LAW converting (24 - 7)

Wharfedale RFC responded almost immediately, when replacement flanker and ex-DMPRFC player Nathan Myers went over after a series of pick and drives (29 - 7). James Guy kicked an excellent penalty from wide out (31 - 7).

Replacement centre Ben FRANKLAND hit back for DMPRFC finding a gap in the home defence (31 - 12), again Garry LAW converting (31 - 14).

This was followed up by another try from hooker Simon UZOKWE (31 - 19) converted by Garry LAW (31 - 21).

As the game opened up and more replacements introduced, DMPRFC were on the attack, but found themselves in a quandray at ruck time, when a loose ball wasn't under control and was picked up by home winger Daniel Tai Sen Choy who fully sprinted 80 yards to score an individual try against the run of play (36 - 14). Guy converting (38 - 21).

The final say was had by the home side, who were awarded a penalty try, when visiting scrum half Matt WALSH was penalised for preventing a quick tap penalty within the 'red zone' (43 - 21), easily converted by Janes Guy (45 - 21).

WALSH was yellow carded for his transgression, which was quickly followed by the final whistle.

Congratulations to Wharfedale RFC who break their duck at home, but DMPRFC were left to reflect on the proceedings.

A first home game since 12th September should help next week when Loughborough Students RFC visit the Arena, but with an horrendous list of injuries and a settled side some distance away, even with plenty of games left to haul themselves away from the danger zone, things need to happen pretty quickly.
