Updates on player movements

Following the rise in recent seasons of certain players who have moved on from the club to pursue a chance at higher level rugby, Darlington Mowden Park are pleased to announce that Jake Henry, Matt Walsh and Warren Seals have taking up positions at Championship clubs.

Having become somewhat of a breeding ground for a number of players in recent years including the likes of Matt Shields (Harlequins), Zylon McGaffin (Rotherham), Charlie Maddison (Rotherham) , Pierce Phillips (Jersey) and Ross Doneghan (London Scottish) and many more the club has giving players the platform to showcase their talents to allow them to pursue their careers in professional rugby.

Winger Henry and Scrum-Half Walsh have signed with Rotherham Titans while fly-half Seals has signed with Yorkshire Carneige.

Head Coach John Newton said of the trios departures: “As a club we are naturally disappointed that they won’t be here for next season.

“However its great recognition for the club that these lads are getting picked up and we are delighted that they’ve secured full-time contracts at Championship clubs, the door is always open for them if they ever want to return.

“Pre-Season begins on Monday and we have a bunch of talented lads not only returning from last year but new ones coming in and we look forward to working with group and building a squad to take the club forward”

Matt Walsh said: “Since arriving at the club almost a year ago, it’s been a genuine pleasure playing for Mowden which is a great club, with a fantastic future, supported by a real family ethos which I have loved being a part of. This support shown has been ongoing with my recent move to the Championship and I can’t thank Mowden Park enough for that.”

Meanwhile the club can also confirm that Italian back row Luca Petillo won’t be returning to the club due to personal reasons and Tomas Appleton has taking up a contract with Portugal Sevens.
