Mowden Park’s James Penman will join Nottingham Rugby in the Championship, following the conclusion of the 2016/17 season

James Penman has officially signed for Nottingham Rugby ahead of the 2017/18 season. The DMP hooker will join the Championship team on a 1 year deal at the end of the current season. The 28 year-old is Nottingham’s first signing ahead of the upcoming season, having played 16 times for DMP this season. On his time with Mowden Park, Penman was grateful to the club and its staff: “I just want to thank the DMP coaches and brothers I made on a really enjoyable season and experience, I will always think of the North East as a home away from home.”

New-Zealand born Penman will join up with his new side after the 6 remaining games in Mowden Park’s season, and had mixed emotions on the move: “I am sad to be leaving but at the same time really excited for the opportunity and new challenge that awaits me in Nottingham.” Director of Rugby Danny Brown echoed these sentiments: “James has been invaluable to us this season, both on and off the field. His knowledge of the game and experience have helped bring the team on this season. Whilst sad to see him go, we are delighted he has got a chance in the Championship with Nottingham, and wish him and Nottingham all the best. In the meantime I know JP will want to see out the season at DMP in style with his mates.”

On the future of his current club, Penman went on to say: “Mowden Park have all the ingredients to push on higher and I would recommend the club to any players looking to progress their rugby."

From everyone here at the club, we wish James the very best of luck.
