Darlington Mowden Park RFC are pleased to confirm that North East businessman Paul Mackings has joined the Club’s Board of Directors.

I’m thrilled to be joining Mowden Park on this exciting journey. It represents one of the most progressive clubs in the UK at present, not just from an elite rugby perspective but from community, grass roots and facility perspectives.

The Club’s Board of Directors was formed to work in collaboration with the Members Committee in 2016 as part of the transition following purchase of the Darlington Arena.

Darlington Mowden Park Managing Director Lee Rust acknowledged Paul saying:

‘‘Paul has already given extensive support and been instrumental in progressing the recent development plans. I’m delighted to secure someone of Paul’s calibre who is equally passionate about the North East and Mowden Park’s potential’’

‘‘When forming the Board in 2016 we identified that we’d look to further strengthen things with specific skill sets. We’ll continue to do this as we move forward within the Club’s governance structure and future plans.’’

Paul joins the Club with a first class background in both business and sport. He is currently Chief Executive of Cameron Hall Developments, the renowned company that has delivered projects across the UK including Europe’s biggest shopping mall, the Metro Centre in Newcastle, and the creation of one of the region’s most desirable places to live in Wynyard Estate with new schools, houses and the iconic conversion of Wynyard Hall.

Paul Mackings commented on his new appointment saying:

‘’I’m thrilled to be joining Mowden Park on this exciting journey. It represents one of the most progressive clubs in the UK at present, not just from an elite rugby perspective but from community, grass roots and facility perspectives.’’

‘’The Club has already made some remarkable progress and I’m looking forward to supporting and helping it to realise its future ambitions.’’

As well as high profile business success, Paul has previously held senior roles in the world of rugby including successful terms as Chief Executive of both West Hartlepool and Newcastle Falcons. Paul also continues to referee across the region at various levels and ages and is an avid supporter of local community activity.

Mick Birch, Chairman of Darlington Mowden Park RFC, formally extended his warm welcome saying:

‘’On behalf of the Club I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to Paul and to thank him for his work to date. We’re thrilled to formally have him on board and working with us at this pivotal time in the Clubs progression.’’
