Australian Payne joins the growing list of players to commit to the Mowden Family ahead of the 2017/18 season

Darlington Mowden Park have today announced their 14th re-signing by keeping hold of Jack Payne ahead of next year. The Australian prop will enter his second season with the club, having joined DMP from Scarlets in 2016. Director of Rugby Danny Brown was thrilled to secure the services of Payne for another year: “We are delighted to have signed Jack for another season here at Mowden Park. Despite a couple of injury niggles early on, we have seen the sheer quality of Jack since Christmas. His work rate on the pitch is phenomenal for a prop, in a position he is learning very quickly having previously played second row and back row. Off the pitch Jack is dedicated to both the gym and community work with a very professional attitude, and both he and his girlfriend have settled well in Darlington. It’s a pleasure to have them both here.”

The 22 year-old has been impressive form in 2017, scoring 3 tries in 11 appearances for the club. Having previously represented the Queensland Reds and Australia U20s, Payne was happy to be extending his stay in the North-East: “I’m really excited for the opportunity to play a big part next year. I’m hoping to get a good pre-season under my belt and hit the ground running. We’ve re-signed a lot of good players so I’m looking forward to a big 2017/18 season.”

With further announcements to come, fans can see Mowden Park in action in their Season Finale against Hull Ionians on Saturday 29th April at the Northern Echo Arena.
