The Mowden Community team held a competition on Saturday 6th December for the schools we have worked with during the past three months.

The schools took part in a coaching session with Director of Rugby - John Newton on the back pitches, followed by two rounds of games. The top two teams went through to the final game which was played on the Arena pitch at half time.

Witnessed by the supporters who were there to see the 1st XV win against Loughborough Students, the children from Hurworth and St Augustine’s played with real determination and team work. The final finished 4 tries to 0 in favour of Hurworth Primary. A fantastic achievement for the team who were crowned Darlington Tag Rugby champions along with their recent accolade of Primary School Team Award (Rugby) at the Darlington Sports Winners Scheme.

At the end of the 1st XV game, all of the children who took part in the competition, had a group photo and were presented with their medals by the 1st XV players.

Mr Hollis, Teacher from Hurworth said “Although it was a particularly cold day, the children and parents who came to support thoroughly enjoyed the experience of a match day at Mowden Park. We look forward to coming to another game”.

Well done to all of the children who took part from St Augustine’s, Hurworth and Firthmoor. We look forward to continuing to work with these schools in 2015.

2015 is already looking to be particularly busy for the Community Team. Several new schools will be receiving Rugby coaching through the Rugby packages that are available, along with the continued delivery of the RFU All Schools programmes in Redcar and Cleveland and Shotton.

The Community Team would like to wish all of our partners, schools and supporters a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for 2015!
