Mowden’s DOR reflects on Saturday’s bonus point win at the Butts Park Arena.

It was a great game and credit to the boys for coming back after conceding the two tries immediately after half time. Throughout the game we reacted brilliantly whenever we fell behind and we scored points at key times in the match.

Following Saturday’s 36-46 win over league leaders Coventry, Mowden Park Director of Rugby Danny Brown was thrilled with his side’s performance: “To travel to the league leaders and come away with a win like that against a quality side was fantastic. It was a terrific performance from the boys and they deserved the win.”

Saturday’s win marked a big reaction to Mowden’s heavy loss in the reverse fixture, and Brown was pleased with his side’s reaction to the loss. “Obviously they took away our unbeaten record at home in February, so to bounce back and take away theirs was a testament to the character the boys showed. They hadn’t dropped a point at home all season so to take 5 points from there was a great effort. The whole squad have reacted brilliantly to the home defeat, took the positives from it and performed well since to get 2 big wins at Ampthill and Coventry.”

The Coventry game was the latest in a string of games where DMP had come from behind to win. Reflecting on an entertaining game that included 11 tries, Brown was particularly pleased with how his side responded in key moments: “It was a great game and credit to the boys for coming back after conceding the two tries immediately after half time. Throughout the game we reacted brilliantly whenever we fell behind and we scored points at key times in the match.”

“Coventry are a top side and they’ve got real quality throughout the squad. They’ve been consistently strong all season and have deserved their promotion. We wish them the very best of luck in the Championship next season.”

Mowden’s 6th win on the bounce, Saturday’s result sealed 2nd place with one week of the season to go. This marks the club’s highest ever league position, having been promoted to National One in 2014: “It’s the highest the club’s finished. This season was about seeing how good these boys are and they’ve really proved themselves, so we’ll enjoy this and we’ll continue to build for next season.”

“The squad have been fantastic all year, everyone involved has applied themselves brilliantly and they’ve really gelled as a group. They deserve every success they’ve had this year and we look forward to seeing how they progress next year.”

A great day for the club on the field, Brown was equally pleased with the day’s events off it: “Our supporters were amazing on Saturday, as they have been all season. Our following both home and away has been phenomenal and the whole squad is extremely grateful for their support. On behalf of the whole club I’d like to thank everyone who has supported us this season! We welcome you to join us at our End of Season Celebration on Friday 4th May to celebrate what has been a brilliant season for the whole club.”
