Darlington Mowden Park RFC 1st XV hooker Charlie Maddison has today signed for Championship side Rotherham Titans for the 2015/16 season.

Having previously represented Tynedale RFC and Leeds Beckett (formally Leeds Metropolitan University), where he studied Sport and Exercise Science and played for the University side for four years, before joining Mowden Park in 2012. Originally splitting his time between University rugby and Mowden Park Charlie signed a full time contract at the start of the 2014/15 season.

Playing most of his rugby at back row Charlie made the switch to hooker shortly before joining Mowden, a positional change that saw Charlie become an integral part of the 1st team set up making 30 appearances (22 of which in the 2014/15 season) during his time at the club.

The move to Rotherham will see Charlie meet up with his brother and Titans second row Barney Maddison.

Speaking ahead of his move to Clifton Lane Charlie said, “I am very happy to be joining Rotherham Titans for the new season and I’m very much looking forward to the challenge ahead. I have had a great time at Mowden Park, they play great rugby and have really helped develop my rugby.”

Maddison is no stranger to the Titans as Lee Blackett explained, “Charlie is someone I’ve known for about 4 years; he’s come through the Leeds Met set-up under Tommy McGee. He came down and trained a little bit with us towards the back end of last season and he’s very much like Barney. He’s someone who you’d never doubt and he gives you 100% every time he goes out there. He’s aggressive and feisty and he wants to get in people’s faces; he has a real edge to him on that side of things.

“He’s recently converted from the back row and this is his second year playing in the front row. He has the ability to get around the field, but he’s the type of player who enjoys getting in people’s faces and that will be good for us.”

Mowden Parks Director of Rugby Danny Brown said ‘’Being a coach has a number challenges and markers of success but developing a player and seeing him move onto a higher level is highly rewarding. We had started building a relationship with Rotherham when Zylon made the move at the end of last year and it’s great we can continue that path way. Charlie has been a big player for us this year and I and Mowden Park wish him all the best”
