Game 8 already and how time has flown since the first game of the season, with DMPRFC now visiting Loughborough Students RFC

So next up, a 280-mile round trip to Loughborough Students RFC, which when compared to last weekend’s 750-mile round trip to Plymouth could be jokingly classed as a ‘local derby’.

Loughborough Students are currently located one place below DMPRFC with identical league points (19) and only one point making the difference for the position.

DMPRFC have won a game more than Loughborough Students, as the record shows that Loughborough have won 3, drawn 1 and lost 3.

For the record Loughborough Students got off to a poor start in the opening game of the season against one of the pre-season title favourites Coventry RFC, losing 54 – 14.

Since then their results have brought three wins v Hull Ionians RFC (13 – 6), a big win at Blaydon RFC in a 104-point game (38 – 66) and last weekend v Old Albanian RFC (26 – 35).

A draw was registered against Rosslyn Park RFC (26 – 26), whilst the other losses were against Ampthill & District RFC (29 – 37) and Cambridge RFC (35 – 34).

Loughborough have gained 4 try bonus points and one losing bonus point.

Their top points scorer, who is currently in the gold medal position for points scored in the league, is Josh Sharp with 89 points and top try scorer is Gair Currie with 4 tries. In all Loughborough have scored 41 tries so far this season.

Last season, DMPRFC did the ‘double’ over this weekend’s hosts, when prevailing home (39 – 16) and away (2 – 22) and therefore they will be anxious to alter their recent fortunes against visitors, who themselves are having a mixed season.

Good wins against Ampthill & District RFC, Cambridge RFC and Old Albanians RFC and a close encounter win at home to Blaydon RFC have been equalised by losses against Hull Ionians RFC and Rosslyn Park RFC and overshadowed last weekend with a heavy loss at Plymouth Albion RFC.

‘If it wasn’t for bad luck we’d have no luck at the moment’ as injuries continue to have a detrimental effect, with key players missing from the match day line-up, many long term and like any club who experience periodical misfortune in this way, suitable quality replacements are hard to find.

Thankfully, there are players who will return this weekend to bolster the squad and other additions in the pipeline.

A big THANK YOU to the hardy band of supporters who made the trip to the end of England, always a pleasure to see and hear the support and the players really do appreciate the effort.

If making the trip, please remember that there is no cover around Loughborough Students 3-G pitch, so with the weather being unpredictable, wrap up and don’t forget your brolly.
