A strong DMP 2nd team powered to an impressive win, scoring nine tries in a 59 - 17 victory over Harrogate 2nds.

A high-tempo start put pressure on the visitors' defence, and though they held out well for ten minutes, they couldn't stop skipper, Chris Dodd crashing over from close range, after fellow prop, Dave Turner, had made the initial thrust. Fly-half, Josh Bragman, added the extras, and the home side were up and running. Harrogate's commitment at the ruck limited the home side's attacking options, but whenever they managed to get it wide they looked dangerous, and on one such occasion, left winger, Shaun McCartney capitalised, powering in at the corner for the second try. Bragman's excellent touchline conversion increased the lead to 14 points, but within six minutes the away side were back in it, as a missed tackle out wide allowed them to pull back a try. Harrogate's try served only to spur Mowden on to greater efforts, and the purple patch with which they finished the half ended the game as a contest. Fit-again back-rower, Ollie Hodgson, bagged a brace either side of Jamie Barnard's long-range effort, and the last play of the half saw McCartney power in from his own half in an unstoppable run to the line to grab his second. With Bragman goaling two of these tries, Mowden were out of sight at 38 - 5 at the break.

Harrogate started the second half with renewed determination, and an altogether tighter performance starved the home side of ball for most of the opening fifteen minutes. Staunch home defence was finally breached after a string of close-range penalties, and the simple conversion took the score to 38 - 12. In a repeat of what happened when the visitors scored their first try, Mowden took the second as their cue to up their efforts, and three further tries were added in the next sixteen minutes. First, back-row forward, Rory Duff stepped neatly inside the cover to go under the posts, before centre, Callum McKenzie burst through the hole between his opposite numbers to go in untouched. Fijian replacement winger, P, added Mowden's final score on 72 minutes, scooping up a dropped ball on the edge of the Harrogate 22 before ghosting in unopposed. With Bragman adding the extras to all three, the home side's lead stood at 59 - 12 going in to the final few minutes, but to the visitors' great credit, they were rewarded for their continuing effort with the last points of the day, scoring from a slick handling move on the last play for a final score of 59 - 17. This was a fine performance from a strong side, and special mention goes to skipper, Chris Dodd, who played the whole game out of position at prop. Also notable was the performance of man-of-the-match, Jonny O'Neil, who has come on leaps and bounds since stepping up from the 3rds, and did particularly well against a very strong Harrogate front row.
