New Zealanders Maia and Pera Gibbs to depart over the summer.

We'd like to thank Maia and Pera for their efforts over the last few seasons. They've both made big contributions to the club both on and off the field and I'd like to wish them the very best in the future.

Darlington Mowden Park can confirm that brothers Maia and Pera Gibbs will leave the club this summer.

Scrum half Maia had spent three seasons with the club, after making his debut against Fylde in December 2016. Speaking about his time at the club, the 30 year-old commented: "Over the last 3 seasons I've had an absolute blast! I’m grateful for the support the club have put around me especially through injuries. Off the field it’s been one of the most enjoyable teams I've been a part of. It’s been an absolute pleasure and I wish the club nothing but the best moving forward!"

Looking ahead to the future, Maia added: "Next season I’ll be joining a club in Holland with my brother. It’s an exciting opportunity to experience another culture and look to finish off my time in Europe."

Younger brother Pera joined the club in the summer of 2018 and made a handful of 1st XV appearances in a season blighted by injury. The 27 year-old made a big contribution off the field as the club's Strength and Conditioning Coach, and he was thankful for the club's support throughout the year: “I just want to say thank you to everybody involved during my time with DMP. It wasn’t the season I hoped for but I certainly learnt a lot."

"I’m gutted I never got to play some decent footy with the boys because of injury but that’s the nature of the beast. All the best for the season ahead!”

Mowden Park DoR Danny Brown commented: "We'd like to thank Maia and Pera for their efforts over the last few seasons. They've both made big contributions to the club both on and off the field and I'd like to wish them the very best in the future."
