A last minute converted try from DMPRFC snatched a draw in a hard fought game at The Arena (Match report attached)

This game hinged on the last few minutes of play, with Mowden pressing to level proceedings, taking the contest down to the wire.

The game only really came to life in the final few minutes and had been somewhat of an arm wrestle until then.

With little time left, Mowden skipper and hooker James PENMAN squeezed in to the corner, after a series of pick and drives by the forwards, close to the line, leaving all the pressure on home fly half Josh BRAGMAN for the extras to draw the game.

Not a sound in the Arena, as BRAGMAN lined up the kick, but when it dissected the uprights, the decent crowd erupted, as the referee blew for time.

The rest of the game wasn’t a patch on the latter moments, as two teams arm wrestled the life out of each other and pretty much snuffed each other out.

It was Coventry RFC who opened the scoring, when fly half Anthony FENNER kicked a penalty when Mowden were caught offside.

Coventry were similarly penalised and Mowden fly half Josh BRAGMAN was successful in evening things up.

Mowden lost flanker ALuca PETILLO early on for what seemed a harsh yellow card, when Coventry No. 8 jumped up in the air to catch a pass, Petillo already committed to a below the knee tackle, but was sent to the bench for his troubles.

BRAGMAN kicked Mowden ahead just prior to the break for oranges and that it how things remained at half time.

An encouraging performance in the fitrst half, with some good defence and attack, which fell just short of the mark in the red zone and it was no surprise that the Mowden coaches were uttering calm words of encouragement in the team talk, something very different to that which was taking place elsewhewre.

Thoughts turned to the next score being the winning score, but as the game developed, tries were scored, building to the finale, when Mowden levelled at the death.

It was Coventry who broke the deadlock sixteen minutes after the break, with virtually the first attack of the game for the visitors, with replacement back Will MAISEY scampering in near the posts.

The conversion from Fenner a formality, edging the visitors in front.

Before Mowden had drawn breath, an error on the half way line in the form of an intercepted pass, saw Coventry's Max TRIMBLE skirt with the touchline, but outstrip the home defence for another score.

Again FENNER converted and with the last quarter of the gaqme to play, Mowden were in trouble at 6 – 17 down.

Replacements made a difference for the home side, so much so, powerful replacement centre James FITZPATRICK barged his way over to give some hope and as BRAGMAN slotted the afters, Mowden were back in the game with their tails up.

The visitors tried to stretch away, when FENNER kicked another penalty, but moments later, a drained Coventry were on the back foot and as the game entered the last few minutes and Mowden were well on top.

Persistent pick and drives on the line, forced the Coventry replacement prop Matt Price into some drastic but illegal defending, interfering on the wing with a certain 2 on 1 try. He was yellow carded for his trouble, but at that stage of the game, that was insignificant to the Mowden penalty try that may be should have been awarded.

However, not to be outdone, lock Talite VAIOLETI quickly tapped and from the resulting series of pick and drives, James PENMAN squeezed over, leaving BRAGMAN to convert expertly from wide out.

The points were a welcome return for DMPRFC , but Coventry RFC will have been disappointed to lose the lead and this showed after the game, as coaches and players seemed to be at odds with themselves over the result.
