Back to back wins for Mowden Park as Pete Homan scores four tries in an entertaining win (Match report attached)

A four try salvo from DMPRFC winger Peter HOMAN, together with tries for fly half Warren SEALS and scrum half turned full back Matt WALSH, accounted for an out of sorts Hull Ionians RFC team.

Centre Garry LAW kicked well all day, missing only 1 conversion, whilst successful with the other 5 conversions and a penalty.

Taking nothing away from the performance of the home side, who displayed a passion and understanding that perhaps had been lacking in previous games prior to the win at Plymouth Albion RFC.

DMPRFC got off to a cracking start and were 14 points up within 7 minutes of the start of the game.

The first try after 3 minutes belonged to fly half Warren SEALS, who used his pace and power to fend off the attempts of would be defenders on his way to scoring near to the posts after good work from the back line (5 - 0). Garry LAW converting (7 - 0).

Before Hull Ionians had, had a chance to recover, Peter HOMAN scored the first of his four tries of the day, when after a lineout was driven close to the visitors line, a well worked move saw him cut a scoring line underneath the posts (12 - 0). LAW converting (14 - 0).

A shell shocked Hull Ionians did recover at that stage and scrum half Isaac Green slotted a penalty when the home side were found to be interfering at the breakdown (14 - 3).

Just after this, a lapse in restraint found the visiting No. 8, former Durham University player Philip Eggleshaw yellow carded for foul play.

At this stage, home full full back Ed COULSON retired from the game with a leg injury and with replacement scrum half Bruno BRAVO entering the fray, starting scrum half Matt WALSH took up the position of full back.

Hull Ionians did well not to concede with their reduction in numbers and in fact when restored to a full contingent fought back to register another penalty from Isaac Green when DMPRFC were caught offside from a knock on (14 - 6).

As the game headed towards oranges, Garry LAW put the home side further ahead with a penalty (17 - 6), when Ionians were also caught offside by refereee Llyr Apgeraint-Roberts,ably assisted by Andrew Gardner and Fraser Gill.

As half-time arrived, it was still a very tight game and although there was some spark of intent from the home side, there was little hint of what was to come.

It was clear that the next score was all important and it came from the home side, again at the hands on an increasingly more influential Peter HOMAN. The try was initiated by replacement Bruno BRAVO, who committed several players before offloading and after several interpassing phases, HOMAN again cut a line to score (22 - 6).

Ionians responded when a catch and drive lineout made progress to the home line and replacement forward Laurence Cowen touched down (22 - 11).

Now in the full back birth, Matt WALSH found himself wide out in possession and outstripped the cover defence sprinting into the corner for the touchdown (27 - 11). Garry LAW was successful with an excellent touch line conversion (29 - 11) to stretch the home lead.

Sadly for the visitors, this heralded an onslaught for DMPRFC, as Ionians struggled to contain the rampant home side.

Peter HOMAN scored his hat-trick with 5 minutes remaining, when after a series of scrummages, the ball was shipped out to the back line and it was replacement Michael TAIT who provided the scoring pass to HOMAN (34 - 11). Again the metronomic LAW converting (36 - 11).

Not satisfied with 3 tries, HOMAN conjured DMPRFC's fourth try, the home sides sixth, when backing up play to score under the posts (41 - 11). Again LAW converted (43 - 11).

The final whistle followed shortly afterwards and DMPRFC ran out worthy winners.
