Danny Brown & John Newton have joined the growing list of those to commit to the 2017/18 campaign

Darlington Mowden Park are pleased to announce that Director of Rugby Danny Brown and Head Coach John Newton have extended their stay at the club. They become the latest to confirm they will be a part of Mowden Park’s 2017/18 season. Chairman Mick Birch was delighted with the confirmation: "I’m thrilled that we are able to retain Danny and John for another season. They have both been integral in our men’s team making the sustainable step-up into National League 1. We are all looking forward to an exciting 2017/18 season.’’ Mowden Park Managing Director, Lee Rust, added: ‘‘Danny and John have been truly fantastic servants to the Club. In addition to their work with the first team they give an enormous amount of time and energy to wider Club endeavours including the other teams and our business activity.’’

Brown, a former player with Newcastle Falcons, was with Mowden Park since the age of 11 having progressed through the ranks from juniors into the first team. He commented: “I’m delighted to have signed for another season with Mowden Park. Between John (Newton) and myself we have tried to bring the club on year on year, and now with the inclusion of Garry (Law) we think we can take then next step. As with everything it's never straightforward, but we have an excellent group of players and backroom staff that make it somewhat easier. Thanks has to go to Mike Keeligan for his support and guidance over the years, it's been invaluable to us both as young coaches. I must also give a huge thank you to all of the members and volunteers that have helped and backed myself and John (Newton) over the years. It has been an incredible journey and we’re looking forward to continuing next season.’’

Relishing his role on the sidelines Danny went on to add: “One of the biggest factors for continuing was the supporters who are magnificent home and away, we do our best for them week in, week out. Sometimes it doesn't happen but believe me we try. I look forward to the challenges ahead and to working with everyone involved in the Mowden Family.”

Head Coach John Newton has also been at the club for a long period, starting in 2007. On his time at Mowden Park, he said: “I'm really pleased to commit for another season, I've enjoyed the last 10 years immensely and we’ve had some great times with the Club: successful promotions, player recognition, growing the minis and juniors and set-up of the academy scheme. The squad and management have done a fantastic job, now it's time to prepare for next season on and off the field.”

With more announcements to come, fans can see Mowden Park in action in their next home game against league leaders Hartpury College on Saturday 25th March.
