This weekend, weather permitting, DMPRFC travel South for the first time in league competition, to the Volac Park HQ of Cambridge RFC.

Weather permitting of course, alluding to the predicted 'cold Arctic front' due to batter the country shortly, which is forecast to bring low temperatures and snow.

With DMPRFC due to 'set sail' Friday late afternoon for the 2pm kick off on Saturday, communication between the two clubs will begin on Thursday evening, as adverse weather is predicted for the general Cambridge area over the next couple of days.

Cambridge RFC are currently lying in 10th place in National League One, one place above DMPRFC, courtesy of a single league point.

Although Cambridge RFC have won one less game than DMPRFC, it is by virtue of amassing a much better bonus point tally (9 TBP, 3 LBP), that they sit slightly more comfortably above their visitors from the North East.

Games for Cambridge RFC at their Volac Park HQ have seen them win four out of their eight games, their best home win probably being their 36 - 0 'shutout' of Fylde RFC, closely followed by the high-scoring 57 - 31 victory over Hull Ionians RFC.

Similar to DMPRFC, their away formed has left a lot to be desired, winning only 2 of their 9 games away from Volac Park, one of those defeats was at the Northern Echo, where they visited DMPRFC for the first time back in late September - no, not '63 like with Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, - but last year - 2016 (37 - 12).

Cambridge RFC's top points guru is fly half Jack Green with a personal tally of 92 points, whilst winger Lawrence Hutchinson has weighed in with 8 tries of his own.

Cambridge RFC have not registered a win in their last three outings:

Home to Ampthill & District RFC, 10 - 20 (10.12.16)
Home to Rosslyn Park RFC, 14 - 32 (17.12.16)
Last weekend a narrow defeat away at Old Albanians RFC, 26 - 24, despite outscoring their hosts by 4 tries to 2 tries.

For DMPRFC, last weekend's narrow (14 - 12) but decent home victory over highly placed Ampthill & District RFC was a welcome back up to a decent run of form for DMPRFC in recent games, which has brought a steady resurgence of confidence as the mainly new squad evolve into a team capable of sustaining National League One rugby.

Tries from Jamie BARNARD and Ben FRANKLAND, together with 2 conversions from the trusty boot of Josh BRAGMAN, saw A's beaten for a second time in the season, following up the good (20 - 39) win down on their patch last September.

There will not be many teams in this league who will do the double over Ampthill & District RFC this season.

During that game Devlin HOPE, a 26 year old hooker, who has signed from London Scottish (ex-Coventry RFC and Western Province's provincial side Valke RFC in South Africa) made his debut from the bench in the game and looks a useful acquisition.

There is no doubting that Cambridge RFC's Director of Rugby Ross Stewart and Head Coach Simon Leader will be anxious to halt the losing trend and also even the score with DMPRFC for that defeat last year, whilst similarly visitors' Head Coaches Danny BROWN and John NEWTON will be plotting 'more of the same' in what promises to be a close encounter - 'weather permitting'.
