Beaumont takes the win in familiar surroundings after an entertaining evening at the Arena.

Cricket legend Sir Ian Botham and former England Rugby Union captain Bill Beaumont renewed their rivalry at the Northern Echo Arena on Monday night, as part of the club’s Interactive Question of Sport Evening.

The former team captains were joined by a wealth of sporting celebrities including England cricketers Ryan Sidebottom and Paul Collingwood, and Newcastle Falcons head coach Dave Walder.

The evening was the latest in an increasingly diverse events calendar at the Arena, with 2 high profile concerts to follow this summer.

With over 100 guests in attendance, it was Bill who scored a victory over his old rival, helped along by his team from JWS Accountants.

Former British Lion Bill Beaumont said: “What a great night. I’ve been to DMP before to see my son Josh play but it has been great coming back on such a lovely summers evening to catch up with Beefy and once again captain the winning team, some things never change!”

His opponent Sir Ian said: “He did it again, we will have to have another Interactive Question of Sport evening as I have to win at some point. It was a fabulous evening with a great audience who really got involved, I wouldn’t mind a few of them joining my team next time!

I’m really looking forward to the next event, the Golf Day on the 19th September with Darlington Mowden Park and the Beefy Foundation, hopefully my team may win then!”

The event marked the launch of a new partnership between Mowden Park and the Beefy Foundation, which raises money for a range of causes including:

• Switchback
• BTRS - Brain Tumour Research & Support
• BDFA - Batten Disease Family Association
• CRY - Cardiac Risk in the Young
• Bloodwise - formerly Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research
• JDRF - Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
YUVA unstoppable
