The short trip North to Blaydon RFC for the last National League One game of the season is this Saturday 25th April 2015.

Unbelievably, the last game of the National League One season is this Saturday, with DMPRFC finishing off their fixture list with a local derby at near neighbours, with the short journey up the A1(M) to the Crow Trees HQ of Blaydon RFC.

With Tynedale RFC relegated for the first time in the history of their involvement since the leagues were formulated, both DMPRFC and Blaydon RFC will be the only North East representatives in the league next season and we hope that the Corbridge club return soon.

Blaydon RFC are currently in 10th position in the league, with 68 points accrued from winning 12 games, which include in that total 12 try bonus points and 8 losing bonus points. Their top point’s scorer is fly-half/centre Andrew Baggett.

In the corresponding home game, which was the first ever National One league game for DMPRFC at the Northern Echo Arena, on the first Saturday of the 2014/15 season, back in early September 2014, Blaydon RFC prevailed by the narrowest of margins (23 – 24).

Last weekend, Blaydon RFC travelled to Hartpury College RFC, losing 34 – 26 to a team who have thoroughly impressed this season, having only been promoted into the league last season.

The build up to the game this weekend has been intense, especially after the result against Old Albanians RFC, which put somewhat of a ‘dampener’ on the last game of the season for the spirits of the 1,252 supporters in attendance.

The players will be anxious to respond and coaches Danny BROWN and John NEWTON will be running their eyes over performances, even at this stage, as plans are put in place for the future.

However, there is only one focus before all that and that is the game on Saturday, with a Blaydon RFC team intent on ‘doing the double’ over DMPRFC and the latter anxious to redress the balance.

Please note that the kick-off for this game is 2.30pm.

Prior to that, the DMPRFC Development XV will also play at Crow Trees at 12.30am against their counterparts Blaydon 2ND XV, finishing off the Candy League programme. Blaydon 2ND XV won the league, but last week DMPRFC Development XV convincingly won the Candy League Cup ( ) last weekend and again, pride will be at stake.

So all roads lead North for a change this weekend and to Blaydon RFC, signing off another eventful season, consolidating in the highest ever league position achieved in DMPRFC’s entire history.
