A thrilling comeback performance saw DMPRFC overhaul a 19-point lead built up in the first 54 minutes of the game by hosts Birmingham Moseley, scoring 21 points in 26 minutes, to secure the game and add another 4 points towards the league total.

Although the hosts scored 14 unanswered points in an eight minute period from kick-off, DMPRFC knew that those points had been gifted through a series of 'gaffs' whilst in possession and even though a third unconverted try followed, the visitors were always in the game.

Birmingham Moseley's first try came after only 3 minutes and from an attacking lineout, where initially they lost possession.

The lineout was overthrown and fielded by the visitors just outside their own 22-metre line, who promptly gifted the ball back, allowing the oncoming home fly half James Williams to pick up and outstrip the cold DMPRFC defence for a simple touchdown. (0 - 5)

Williams composed himself to slot the easiest of conversions (0 - 7) and DMPRFC were left to discuss the mix up briefly before falling further behind after less than 5 minutes, falling victim to another mix up, this time on the half way line, again 'coughing up' the ball and then floundering in defence, as home winger Ed Sheldon carved his way through some hapless attempts to halt his progress, all unsuccessfully, as he touched down from 40 metres. (0 - 12)

Again, James Williams slotted the conversion (0 - 14) and everything seemed ominous for the visitors after a very poor start to the game.

Slowly but surely, DMPRFC hauled themselves back into the game, although for the amount of possession they enjoyed from lineout and a dominant scrum, things initially misfired, with either the ball being spilled regularly or the hosts managing to snuff out what were some good opportunities.

As the first half ran its course, DMPRFC were certainly firmly back in the frame and should have interfered with the score board on several occasions.

However, at oranges, there were hints that the visitors 'nil' score line was not going to remain so after the full 80 minutes had elapsed.

Whatever was said by the DMPRFC coaches as oranges were provided, certainly 'did the trick' as the visitors came out firing from the off in the second half.

They set about constructing the fight back, but, as in the first half, the hat-trick of errors was complete, when they lost possession deep in the hosts half, with home fly half Williams again on hand to break out of defence. He exchanged passes with home full back Michael Penn, as they progressed out of their own half and speedily into opposition territory, before Williams outpaced the visiting defence to score. (0 - 19).

However crucially and probably due to the effort expended in his try scoring run, Williams missed the conversion.

Surprisingly, that miss was the catalyst for DMPRFC's revival.

The ball was kicked back to the home side, but it was DMPRFC who set about securing it's recovery and then they embarked on reducing the deficit.

Possession was retained through a long series of phases, until DMPRFC's scrum half Tim DUCHESNE saw a chance. hurling the ball into the outstretched arms of winger Adam RADWAN, who 'did what he does best', in squeezing through the gap between defender and touchline to dive over for the important first score. (5 - 19).

The trusty boot of full back Josh BRAGMAN excellently dissected the posts from wide out for the afters. (7 - 19)

Birmingham Moseley did have their own attempts to increase their tally, but their lineout was dysfunctional and they were always under pressure in the scrum, which invariably found reverse gear.

The visitors kept the pressure on and somewhat inevitably the defence cracked after a strong series of pick and drives, when home flanker Jack Kenny Preece was binned for interference with the ball in a ruck, which was some justice as an earlier outrageous high tackle on RADWAN had gone unpunished.

Reduced in numbers, DMPRFC returned the pressure on the home side and the burly frame of Australian lock Jack PAYNE profited, as he powered over the home line. (12 - 19). The renowned boot of fly half Garry LAW returned to action for the conversion, which was successful. (14 - 19)

The visitors were now in full flow and the frustration of the sizable home crowd was seemingly transferred to pitch side, as Birmingham Moseley started to feel the pressure of DMPRFC being on top.

This pressure was further increased, as Williams missed a penalty attempt, which probably would have done the trick for them.

Again, buoyed by the miss and with the 'bit between their teeth', DMPRFC went for the jugular.

With 3 minutes remaining, another set of pick and drives was halted by some desperate defence, but no defence could have stopped the straight running battering ram known as James FITZPATRICK, who barged over the line to even the scores. (19 - 19)

All eyes on Garry LAW then for the extras and ultimately the win. He didn't disappoint, breaking home hearts in the process. (19 - 21)

With the comeback complete, there was little time for the home side to respond and when the ball bobbled into touch and out of play, the small band of dedicated travelling supporters exuded the loudest cheer of the day, with DMPRFC players and coaches absolutely deserving of that praise.

A week off next week and then back to it at home to bottom club Macclesfield RFC.
