South African Winger Brandon Asher-Wood joins the club for the 2017/18 campaign

Darlington Mowden Park are pleased to announce the signing of South African Winger, Brandon Asher-Wood.

Brandon, a South African Sevens Academy player, has joined DMPRFC for the 2017/18 campaign. Asher-Wood joins after enjoying a successful season with South African club Side, Hamilton SP RFC. The 24-year old’s blistering pace earned himself a spot in this year’s South African Sevens Academy Squad. As well as wing, Brandon can cover full back as well as scrum half. Previously a student at Stellenbosch University, Brandon competed in the Varsity Cup for the University sides 1st XV. Current DMPRFC player Warren Seals also attended Stellenbosch University and he is a previous team mate of Brandon's.

The winger will add pace, strength and competition to the squad. Competition for places is high as the 1st XV go into a tough away fixture against Birmingham Moseley this Saturday. Brandon wasted no time and got stuck straight into training on the back of the flight over from South Africa.

On his arrival to the Arena, Brandon commented “I was blown away by the professionalism of the club and the welcoming I received from everyone involved. The facilities are world class and it's evident that everyone is passionate about what they’re doing, creating an environment for young players like me to strive".

This will be Brandon’s first taste of English rugby and he is relishing the opportunity "I'm really excited about my future here at Darlington Mowden Park and it's been an absolute honour to be part of this brand. I look to give nothing but my best, on and off the field, to becoming not only a better player but a better person too.”

Coach Garry Law is excited by the new signing and added “It is good to have Brandon on board and his versatility will be the main strength we look to utilise in this squad. He can play back 3 and cover 9 as well. We have had good reports from contacts in South Africa and the attributes he has should fit in nicely with our vision on how we want to play at Mowden. There is now a fierce competition for places throughout the squad, which is only a good thing."

Fans can join Brandon as a part of the Mowden Family by buying their 2017/18 Mowden Memberships here.
