AROUND THE GROUNDS: COVENTRY RFC

With the 2016/17 season just around the corner we take a look at what’s in store for our away followers this season.

WHO: Coventry RUFC

WHERE: Butts Park Arena, Coventry, CV1 3GE

INFO: Butts Park Arena is a multi-use sports stadium. Its main use is as a rugby stadium (both Union and League). It is the home ground for Coventry RFC (since its opening) and Coventry Bears, (who moved there for the start of the 2004–05 season). It was formerly the home ground of the Coventry Jets, an American football team.

The stadium has also hosted the local varsity day matches between Coventry University and the University of Warwick.
The stadium was built in 2004 and currently has one stand, the East Stand, which has a capacity of 3,000 and includes a number of conference and banqueting facilities. The West Stand which was a temporary structure holding 1,000 was removed at the end of the 2005–06 season on grounds of health and safety.

WHO: Director of Rugby Rowland Winter

WHEN: Last season’s two fixtures saw Mowden Park take the honours 29-21 at the Northern Echo Arena however Coventry were 27-10 winners at Butts Park Arena.

WHAT: There will be two familiar faces in the Coventry line up next year with DMP old boys Rob Conquest and Tom Jubb added to the Coventry squad for next season.
